Acne we all hate it, and finding solutions to curing them can be exhausting and expensive. What if there was a way to get rid of our stubborn pimples without the stress? Pimple patches are here to save the day and keep your skin as clear as can be.
What are Pimple Patches
Pimple patches are thin small circles that stick and stay on your face when put on. Some are stars and some are clear patches you can put on. Place them on the pimple for 4-8 hours. You can see the patch bring puss to the surface without squeezing it. A freshman at Colonia High School named Adam Romej said. “After one patch my pimple was gone overnight.” Your pimple can shrink or go away entirely after the necessary time. Simply peel, toss, and reapply.
How are Pimple Patches Able to Help Pimples
The active ingredients in the patches can help in many ways. First, it dries out the pimple which takes away the excess oils from the area. It hydrates the skin so the dryness doesn’t irritate it. The patch kills bacteria from the pimple and brings the puss to the surface. If you have sensitive skin you may want to be cautious and ask your dermatologist if any irritation occurs to see if you can use the patches due to your skin being sensitive to the ingredients in the small patches.
Ingredients
Depending on the type of patch you buy, they can have many acne-fighting ingredients. Most patches on the market have hydrocolloids. A gel material that heals wounds. Other pimple patches are packed with ingredients that help acne disappear, such as hyaluronic acid, which helps “hydrate the skin.” You can also find benzoyl peroxide on the ingredient list, which helps reduce breakouts by killing bacteria. These ingredients can be found in many acne serums and different products.
Different Types of Pimple Patches
The first type of patch is the Hydrocolloid patch, this is a non-medicated option. It’s most effective on pimples that have fully surfaced, giving you a minimal scarring option rather than risking scarring by popping the pimple on its own. The second type of patch is a medicated one, these have the acne-fighting ingredients mentioned in “What are They Made of?” which aids in fighting bacteria and reducing inflammation of the spot. The final type of patch available is Microneedling patches. These have multiple tiny spikes that allow the ingredients to be distributed deeper into the skin. “The microneedle works the best for my invisible pimples” By Savannah Puerta, a freshman at John F. Kennedy High School. Everyone’s skin can react differently, but these patches greatly help “blind pimples” that lay under the skin. Allowing relief to these painful pimples that aren’t ready yet.
Tolerating Acne
At the end of the day, all skin is beautiful. Acne or not. But this method is top tier. We now live in a world where it’s ok to have acne. Instead of covering our zits with make up only making the problem worse. We now own our skin and leave the house with stars and patches on our faces with confidence. Social Media however definitely helped normalize having acne by starting the trend of having stars on our faces. Today we can ask without shame if someone has a pimple patch for you to use because our world now is about medicating and helping ourselves. Our skin doesn’t own us we own the skin.
