It is senior night at last for the Woodbridge Township Boys Ice Hockey team today on 1/29. The boys bring home another win with an amazing score of 11-1 against J.P. Stevens High School located in Edison, NJ. This is a great way to end the day as it is one of the seniors last games.
Senior Ceremony
As we know this game was senior night for Woodbridge Township. Each Senior had a picture taken with their family while their teammates cheered them on from the sides. They even had banners of each senior with their name and their associated jersey along the side of it. The Woodbridge Township Boys Ice Hockey Team is a combination from all three schools including, Colonia, Woodbridge, and JFK. But their team actually contains three seniors that go to Colonia High School. Players Jacob Vargas (#8), Anthony Marrone (#20), and Joseph Berzolla (#2) have soaked in some of their last moments on the ice together.
The Match
Within the first few minutes of the game, the team was striking through with 2 points in with still 12:40 left on the clock. This leads them to having a total of three points with in the first 5 minutes. They struggle to score against them but pull through and succeed thanks to their goalie Christian Karas from JFK. It is hard to say the same for Edison as their goalie Michael Dickey, gets defeated by them. By the end of the first round, Woodbridge is at a great total of 7 points leaving J.P. Stevens with nothing.
According to NJ.com, J.P. Stevens goalie Dickey has a total of 55 shots against. Whereas the goalie for Woodbridge Twp, Karas only has 20 shots against. Yet it’s ironic that J.P. had more saves than Wood being that they had 44 and we only had 19. But their save percentage was only .800 compared to us which was a .950. This is what led families and friends to believe the reason for this major win.
By the end of the match, 5 goals are scored by their Captain Ray Obolsky (#74) from WHS. Then 1 each from the following players: Jacob Broadwell, Anthony Marrone, Evan Shubert, Brayden Vargo, Nick Malone, and Nick Santeramo. And 29 points are made all through out each of the players with Obolsky having the highest at 7 points. But Berzolla, Marrone, and Vargo all tie behind with 3 points scored each. On the other hand, the only point scored from J.P. was by Senior Brendan Abbatemarco (#14).
Conclusion
By the looks of the outcome, it seems as this was a clean sweep for the team and a especially a great comeback for senior night. They have come a long way this season as they have lost 9 out of their 15 games this season so far. It can be predicted that the boys will have a better season going forward with this win in their hands. The bar is now set high for our players as they could possibly win their final game of the season of they keep this mindset. There is no guarantee what the outcome will be for their two remaining games, but we wish them the best of luck.
