Pitcher Tommy John secured his 287th win in a 4-2 win over the Twins. This put him at 19th on the all-time wins list.
1989 was John’s 26th and final season, which was a record among pitchers. Since then his record has been broken by legendary pitcher, Nolan Ryan, who played 27 seasons, spanning from 1966-1993. John retired in 1989 with 288 wins and 231 losses and a career ERA of 3.34.
