One of the most influential players in baseball history, Jackie Robinson, made his debut against the Boston Braves on opening day of the 1947 season. Starting at first base, he went 0/3, but scored the winning run in a 5-3 win for the Dodgers.
Robinson was 28 years old when he made his debut and played ten years for the Brooklyn Dodgers, winning Rookie of the Year and becoming the first black player to win MVP in 1949. On Jackie Robinson Day, all players, managers and umpires wear the number 42 in Robinson’s honor.
