Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot of Kenya won his third Boston Marathon title, his second consecutively with a time of 2:14:13. Cheruiyot is a 4-time winner of the Boston Marathon and previously held the record in 2006, running a 2:07:14.
After he set the record, Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot, who is unrelated, broke the record running 2:05:52 in 2010. The year after, Geoffery Mutai of Kenya broke that record and still holds the course record to this day, running a 2:03:02.
