Before 1986, no pitcher struck out more than 20 batters in a game. Roger Clemens did it twice during his tenure with the Boston Red Sox. He is still the only pitcher to strike out 20 in two different games. Clemens set two Red Sox records, winning 192 games and striking out 2,590 batters during his time with the team. He also won 3 Cy Young awards and won an MVP award in the 1986 season.
In 1986, Clemens went on to finish an MVP campaign with a 24-4 record, winning his first 14 outings. In addition to his impressive record, he had a 2.48 ERA and 238 strikeouts.
Clemens won a record 7 Cy Young awards and won the triple crown twice.
