After being selected as the 2022 draft class “Mr. Irrelevant”, Brock Purdy became one of the best underdog stories of the 2022 season.
After 49ers starter, Jimmy Garoppolo went down with an injury, their 1st round pick from 2021, Trey Lance stepped in. Just 2 games into Lance’s tenure, head coach, Kyle Shanahan decided to shift to the final pick of the draft. Purdy went a perfect 5-0 and helped the team reach the NFC championship. Unfortunately, an elbow injury kept him out of most of the game and the Niners lost 31-7 to the Philadelphia Eagles.
In 2023, Purdy put together a solid campaign, throwing 31 touchdowns, 4,280 yards on a 69.4% completion percentage. He led the Niners to a Super Bowl but fell to the Chiefs in an overtime loss.
