Cy Young, an MLB legend, led the Boston Americans to a 3-0 win after posting the first ever perfect game in modern baseball.
Young was pitching against the Philadelphia Athletics who had won the 1902 pennant. However, in spite of the Athletics success, the Boston Americans were the defending champions and Young was the league’s best pitcher. Young was 37 years old and aging but still very much going strong, having won more than 90 games over the previous 3 seasons. Young finished the season with 26 wins and a 1.97 ERA, but never posted a perfect game again.
