Disappointing results on May 22, 2025 for the Colonia High School boys varsity volleyball when facing JP Stevens in an intense contest that showcased competitive spirit and skill. The atmosphere within the court was as electric as the stands. Students and parents from both schools came out to support their players, eager to witness what would unfold on the court.
Prior to the game
As the team begins to warm up, energy is bursting throughout all corners of the room. Senior Isaiah Barber stated, “My main focus today is to have fun playing the sport I love with the people I love” showing the highest state of team spirit. But on the other hand, Coach Jennifer Blash seemed to be a little worried. She stated, “The team really needs to get their head in the game. They play well individually but not necessarily together. We can beat this team as long as our heads work properly, but the real concern is if the boys will stray away from that.”
After Blash wished her team good luck and reminded them to strategize properly, the boys headed off to the locker room to change into their game day attire. They also huddled up in an attempt to have a team meeting. Ready to play, they all screamed Colonia and headed onto the court.
The game
The first set began with both teams displaying strong serves and a solid defense. Colonia was able to establish a quick rhythm, with their hitters making aggressive attacks. However, JP Stevens was very quickly able to catch up utilizing perfect passing and a beautiful rhythm. Daniel Latkowski consistently made excellent attacks but JP Stevens libero quickly dug almost all of them back up. Unfortunately Colonia could not keep up, allowing JP Stevens to win the first set with a score of 25 – 23. Colonia attempted to keep their energy high, it was still anyone’s game.
As the second set approached, Colonia strived to target where they were going wrong. Starting off strong, they worked together to execute perfect rallies. Despite their efforts, JP Stevens managed to regain control of the game allowing Colonia to lose all hope of winning. The decrease in energy on the court was extremely noticeable making the game not as enjoyable for the crowd. Both teams seemed to have been playing as if they didn’t care who won. After 2 time outs from JP Stevens and 1 from Colonia, Jp still managed to win the set with a score of 25 – 23.
Final Results
JP Stevens celebrated their hard-faught victory, having demonstrated skill and strategy throughout the game. Although Colonia was disappointed, they held their heads high knowing they had given it their all. Within the game, they were able to learn valuable lessons that would serve them well in future matches.
Overall, the match was a testament to the competitive spirit living within high school volleyball. It showcased the talents of young athletes and the thrill of the game. Although only one team won, they both left holding their head high ready to take on the next competition.
