Former Los Angeles Dodgers manager, Walter Alston had his number 24 retired by the team after a very successful career.
He started his career as a player-manager for the Dodgers in 1946 and remained a manager of the team from 1954-1976. He finished with a record of 2,040-1,613, which equates to a .558 winning percentage in his management career. He led the team to 4 World Series wins in 1955, 1959, 1963, and 1969 and was named Manager of the Year 6 times.
He was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
