Holiday treats sure to impress guests

Want to spice up this Holiday season? Well these recipes are sure to keep guests wondering on how they were made. Each of these recipes takes less than an hour and are made with simple ingredients that are inexpensive. They are also good for a children’s party because of their holiday inspired presentation.

Peppermint Bark

Ingredient List (enough for 2 cookie sheets)

  • 4 regular sized dark chocolate Hershey bars or chocolate chips
  • 6 candy canes
  • peppermint extract( for extra flavor if wanted)

Instructions

  1. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper.
  2. Unwrap the candy canes and put them in a plastic bag.
  3. Crush the candy canes into small pieces (they should not be powdery or too big).
  4. Melt the chocolate in a bowl
  5. Add a small amount of the candy cane pieces into the chocolate (or add peppermint extract).
  6. Spread the chocolate pretty thin on the cookie sheet (don’t make it too thin or too thick).
  7. Sprinkle the rest of the candy cane pieces on top of the chocolate.
  8. Put the cookie sheet in the fridge for about 30 minutes.

Peppermint Puppy Chow

Ingredient List

  • 5 cups of Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 ¼ cups melting white chocolate
  • 1 cup crushed candy canes
  • 1 cup confectioners’ (powdered) sugar

Instructions

  1. Pour 5 cups of Chex Cereal into large bowl.
  2. Melt chocolate in the microwave in 20 second intervals, stirring after each time.
  3. Pour melted chocolate over cereal and fold in till its completely covered.
  4. Fold in crushed candy canes.
  5. In a large zipped top bag or covered container add powdered sugar.
  6. Pour the chocolate covered cereal into the bag and seal it.
  7. Shake the bag till the cereal is completely covered in the powdered sugar.

 

Corn Flake Wreaths

  • ⅓ cup butter
  • 1 (10 ounce) package regular marshmallows  or 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon green food coloring
  • 6 cups corn flakes
  • red cinnamon candies

Instructions

  1. In large saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
  2. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Stir in food coloring.
  3. Add corn flakes cereal. Stir until well coated.
  4. Using 1/4 cup dry measure coated with cooking spray, evenly portion warm cereal mixture. Using buttered fingers, quickly shape into individual wreaths. Dot with cinnamon candies.

Reindeer and Snowman Donuts     

Ingredient List( Reindeer)

  • Chocolate frosted mini donuts
  • Red M&M’s
  • Round pearl sprinkles or white frosting
  • Mini pretzel twists

Instructions (Reindeer)

  1. Press red M&M into center of donut.
  2. Press 2 round sprinkles or frosting ( eyes) into top of donut.
  3. Use a knife or hands to break mini pretzels in half to make the antlers.
  4. Press the pretzel half into the side of the donut.

Ingredient List (Snowman)

  • Powdered sugar mini donuts
  • Orange M&M’s
  • Black frosting or sprinkles

Instructions (Snowman)

  1. Press an orange M&M into center of donut.
  2. Press black sprinkles or frosting to make the eyes.
  3. Press sprinkles into the donut to form a mouth, or use black frosting.

Strawberry Santa Hat Brownies

Ingredient List

  • 125g butter, chopped
  • 1 1/3 cups Nestle Dark Melts, plus 1/2 cup extra
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 3/4 cup Nestle Mini Choc Bits
  • 16 strawberries, hulled and trimmed
  • 1/2 cup thickened cream, whipped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Grease and line base and sides of a 19cm square cake pan.
  3. Combine butter, Nestle Dark Melts and sugar in large microwave safe bowl; microwave uncovered on MEDIUM (50%) for 1 minute; stir. Repeat process in 30 second intervals until melted and smooth; cool 2-5 mins.
  4. Combine butter, Nestle Dark Melts and sugar in large microwave safe bowl; microwave uncovered on MEDIUM (50%) for 1 minute; stir. Repeat process in 30 second intervals until melted and smooth; cool 2-5 mins.
  5. Place extra Nestle Dark Melts in a microwave safe bowl; microwave uncovered on MEDIUM (50%) for 1 minute; stir. Repeat process in 30 second intervals until melted. Drop a little melted chocolate on the cut-side of each strawberry and adhere to brownie round.
  6. Transfer whipped cream to a piping bag fitted with a small round nozzle, pipe cream on strawberries to make Santa hat pom-poms and trim

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Ingredient List

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 3 drops peppermint oil
  • Sweetened whipped cream, for garnish
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the cream, milk, sugar, and salt and heat over medium-low heat.
  2. When the cream mixture just begins to steam, add the chopped chocolate, and stir, until melted.
  3. Stir in the peppermint oil.
  4. Divide the hot chocolate among mugs and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Coal Rice Krispy Treats

Ingredient List

  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 6 cups marshmallows
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 5 cups Cocoa Krispies
  • 1 cup crushed oreos
  • black food coloring

Instructions

  1. Pour the rice krispies and oreos in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium high heat until melted. Turn the heat down to the lowest setting and add the marshmallows.
  3. Stir until the marshmallows are mostly all melted (this will take a few minutes)
  4. Add in the vanilla and black food coloring and finish melting.
  5. Once fully melted, take them off heat and pour over the rice krispies.
  6. Stir to combine until everything is black. Dump everything by spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet, so they look like funky coal shapes
  7. Allow them to cool about 20 minutes
