A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a common lunch item

Everybody has that one friend, the one who does the most disgusting things while you’re eating in the cafeteria. The person who likes to make you cringe in disgust while you eat your food.

In the cafeteria, most people in there, are eating their food and also socializing with their friends. But then while you’re talking, one of your friend will reveal information about their personal life that nobody wants to hear. It makes you stop chewing your food and wonder if they actually said what you heard, and why they would say that. Nothing ruins the desire to eat more than hearing about those disgusting illnesses, rashes, boils, and bowel movements someone had. It is disgusting to think that if they are still sick, the germs from the various conditions are building up in the area as they speak, that would really make you think before biting into that meal you’ve been eating.

Some people like to talk about their odd habits, nobody wants to hear about the certain smells you enjoy and why. If I’m eating lunch and hear about how you enjoy sweaty socks or rotten eggs, it will most likely ruin my appetite, especially if an example is provided. It is a proven fact the sense of smell effects the sense of taste. The article Taste and Smell explained,”Taste and smell are separate senses with their own receptor organs, yet they are intimately entwined. Tastants, chemicals in foods, are detected by taste buds, which consist of special sensory cells. When stimulated, these cells send signals to specific areas of the brain, which make us conscious of the perception of taste.” So when that one friend pulls something out with a terrible odor, that in a way you are tasting that odor.

The best solution you have to get away from that friend is to move your table. Although it may seem like an extreme solution, you shouldn’t suffer by having to hear the disturbing stories or have your food infected by the germs of your friend. It would be beneficial to your health and your sanity to move to a table where you have friends, although it may not be as much fun, you can actually eat in lunch and not in the classroom.
