Hip Hop music has been one of the most famous music genres throughout the decade. Of course, there has been a lot of changes in this genre throughout the decade.

Hip hop in the past

Hip hop as a culture and genre has made tremendous strides, since its emergence in the 1970s. hip-hop refers to a complex culture comprising four elements: deejaying, or “turn tabling”; rapping, also known as “MCing” or “rhyming;” graffiti painting, also known as “graf.” This style and upbringing of hip hop has changed a lot of the decades, especially  from the 2000s through the current year. As hip hop artists shied away from a lot of the prolific and realistic story telling it is today, the central idea stays constant and that is to speak what’s on your mind. Practiced with only pen and paper then later simple beats, hip hop has made tremendous strides from what it once was to what it is now.

Hip Hop now

Hip hop today has almost completely changed from the past. Now, hip hop centers around the art of beat making and cool sounds called “ad-libbing.’  The central messages like partying, drugs and killing, hip hop shys away from its original culture. A culture based on unification, love and spreading social awareness.

The message that hip hop music currently gives out is very negative. It’s currently presenting negative thoughts to their, mostly teenage, audience. This music presents a message of drugs, sex, money, and other illegal activity. Hip Hop music now presents an image of what women should look like. They define the physical aspect of these women, but not the emotional aspects. This is bringing a negative message towards younger listeners, and tells them that this is what they have to be if they want to be successful in the future.

Artists throughout the Decade

The hip hop artists have changed throughout the decade, but have still been the same, also. One artist that has looked the same is Drake. During 2010, Drake was a starting artist, and now in 2019, he is one of the most famous hip hop artists in the world. Nicki Minaj has also been one of the most famous female hip hop artists throughout the decade. She has won multiple awards throughout the decade, and continues to top the charts with each one of her new songs. Within the scope of only a decade artistry in the genre have changed a lot. Through the names, substance and focal point Hip hop has become more mainstream than ever.

Conclusion

Hip-Hop has made tremendous feats in just the past decade. From being an underground culture engulfed in unity, lyricism and wit to the mainstream, heavily instrumental oriented. Hip-Hop has found its ground in the world and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down and taking over the nation.
