The legendary gaming company Nintendo released the switch. Since then, it has been one of the best consoles Nintendo has released.
The Switch made its debut on March 3, 2017 in Japan and most of the Western Markets. The Switch has sold over 52 million units over the past 3 years, becoming the fastest-selling console of all time. It came with the console, 2 joycon controllers, a stand for charging and hooking it up to the TV, another stand for propping up the Switch on its own, power cable, HDMI cables, and other console items. It was revolutionary as it combined the portability of the DS with the power of a home console.
You could also hook it up to the TV and play games that way, like how there was a attachment for the SNES that let you play GameBoy games on it. The joycons were also pretty revolutionary, as they had the ability to be detached from the console itself to use in 2 separate hands, or you could pass one on to your friend so you could play games together. They also came with motion controls, which some games utilized. The games came on what are called SD Cards, which are tiny little chips that are more convenient to store and also can hold more data.
Speaking of games, the Switch currently supports over 3200 games. One of the first was 1-2 Switch. This took advantage of the motion sensors in the Joycans to play party games. Other games to do this are Arms, Mario Kart, and Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. The Switch also has a swath of regular games that are really good. These titles include Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, and Super Mario Odyssey, with Breath of the Wild actually winning game of the year in 2017.
It also finally brought the Pokemon franchise onto a home console. This broke the trend of the games only being on Nintendo’s portable devices, although the Switch is portable. You can also buy a Nintendo Account, which costs around $20 a year. This lets you do a whole slew of things. These include playing online and being able to play the NES and SNES emulators. This lets you play old classics from said consoles.
Even though I said a lot of good, that doesn’t mean the Switch doesn’t have flaws. One of the more famous examples is the Joycons. They are notorious for “drifting,” This is when dust gets into the controller and makes you move in one direction constantly. While this can be avoided by buying a regular controller. However, the portability aspect could be completely shot if it’s bad enough. The stand-alone stand is also a problem. It’s placed to one side so balancing it can be a pain, and it also breaks off easily. The SD cards are tiny, so if you aren’t careful you could lose them.
But all in all, the Switch is one of the best console out there right now and is well worth the investment. You should try it, you won’t be disappointed.
