With the cold weather checking out for now and warm rays of sunshine taking its place, it’s important to stay cool, especially when the temperature spikes. If you live in New Jersey and are located near Colonia, Harvy’s is a great option to escape the heat. Harvy’s is located at 533 Inman Ave, Colonia NJ. Their shop is on the smaller side, but it offers up a cozy and welcoming atmosphere for the customer.

The Menu

If you are like me, you like to analyze a menu before you go out to eat so you know exactly what to get. You can access Harvy’s full menu on their website. I found that finding Harvy’s menu online was a bit of a struggle, but through some trial and error I eventually found their menu. I unfortunately found Harvy’s website to be buggy. Though it did have some technical problems I did find my way through it eventually.  Harvy’s menu is very large and filled with diverse foods and flavors. If you are looking for something on the smaller side, I would recommend a standard cone. Harvy’s offers a diverse range of flavors. They even have what they call ‘exotic flavors’ . These flavors are inspired from traditional Indian spices. The flavors I found most interesting while looking at the menu were cake batter, chocolate hazelnut, and figs + rose.

If you want to try something a little more filling, Harvy’s offers an array of special treats. They offer twelve signature happy rolls, which is what I personally tried on my trip to Harvy’s. Happy Rolls is homemade rolled ice cream topped with syrup and toppings of your choice. Rolled ice cream is a newer foodie trend, it is very hard to find which is why it is so cool that Harvy’s offers it. If you try the rolled ice cream at Harvy’s and you’re hooked, you can find other NJ based rolled ice cream shops here. You can also try a Happy Glacier, an  original sundae served in a waffle bowl.  If you are not in the mood for ice cream, Harvy’s also offers a wide variety of hot and cold teas and coffees. They also serve bubble tea that you can customize with toppings!

Taste Test

On my trip to Harvy’s I brought my two friends, Alyssa and Megan. We each ordered rolled ice cream. Alyssa and I  ordered cookies and cream rolled ice cream, while Megan ordered Strawberry cheesecake. The staff were very nice, however our orders did take approximately ten to fifteen minutes each to come out. One rolled ice cream cost seven dollars. Personally, I feel this is a fair price for the amount of ice cream we received. The ice cream was rich in flavor and came with many delicious toppings. This was my first time ever trying rolled ice cream. I find it safe to say that my expectations were met.

“Rolled ice cream was fun to watch them make but even more fun to eat!” Shares Alyssa Cifelli, jovially. The rolled ice cream is prepared in front of you on a large frozen wheel. It is so interesting to see all the work that goes into making rolled ice cream. “They had such yummy ice cream!” Megan Sowinsky tells. Sowinsky shares that the strawberry flavor in her ice cream was “so delicious.” The strawberry flavor was made with fresh strawberry’s, giving it a refreshing taste and texture.

Overall

I would overall give Harvy’s a 4 out of 5 stars. Though their website is a bit buggy and the ice cream did take some time to make, the wait was worth it. Their ice cream selections are diverse and delicious. The staff and ambiance is welcoming. The experience of going to Harvy’s plus their delicious ice cream will have you excited to go back for seconds.
