In 1971, the Lakers continued to establish their reputation as one the most dominant teams in the NBA during the late 60s and early 70s. Led by Jerry West, Elgin Baylor and Wilt Chamberlain, they began what is still the longest winning streak in NBA history.
The winning streak came to an end against league MVP and future Laker, Kareem Abdul Jabaar and the Bucks. Abdul-Jabaar led the charge, scoring 39 points against Chamberlain’s usually impressive defense. West led the Lakers with 20 points but had little backup with the second highest scorer being Chamberlain with just 15 points.
The Lakers would still go on to win the 1972 championship and went down as one of the most dominant teams in NBA history.
