The Detroit Tigers claimed a 19-year-old Denny McLain from the White Sox kicking off an impressive, but short-lived career for the 2-time Cy Young.
After 2 short years, McLain got a real shot as a starting pitcher in 1965. He would go on to win 108 games from 1965 to 1969, winning more than 20 in 3 of those years. He is the last pitcher to ever win more than 30 games in a single season, posting a 31-6 record in 1968. His impressive season earned him both the Cy Young and MVP award in the same season. He won his second Cy Young in a row in 1969, winning 24 games.
