Black Friday deals are getting worse every year

“Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, online shoppers were spending an average of $11.3 million per minute, as reported by Adobe.”
This year, Black Friday deals are not capturing many people’s attention, keeping them away from stores. One reason the deals are not worthwhile is the prevalence of online shopping.

Online Shopping

With online shopping and the increased availability of sales online, some stores may feel that it is better not to offer as many good deals on Black Friday as a way to minimize financial losses. Along with online shopping, there are “Cyber Monday” deals that last over a week. I think it is funny that week-long deals are for Cyber Monday and Black Friday because they should only be one day long. If the deals were only for a day, I feel as if they would give out better deals.

Holiday Sales

I like having a lot of sales during the holiday, as they are helpful for people shopping for others during the holiday season. But with deals happening almost every week, they don’t feel special anymore. As someone who is going Black Friday shopping for the first time this year, I wish that the sales this year were more unique, like they used to.

Old Black Friday

My family doesn’t go Black Friday shopping, but the media makes it look like it used to be exciting, with huge 90% discounts, crowded stores, and even chaos over big items. I don’t want the chaos, but I do want the great sales. With prices so high nowadays due to things like inflation, it would make sense to offer better deals instead of worse ones.

My Black Friday Plan

My plan this Black Friday is to go to Walmart first since it is open 24 hours. I might go to 7-Eleven first and get a Slurpee and a snack. There is a Kohl’s near the Walmart, so I might go there afterwards. After that, I plan on going to my local mall, which has stores such as Barnes & Noble, Sephora, Hollister, and many more. After that, I might go to this plaza, which contains Ulta, Five Below, Homegoods, and other stores. I hope that my first Black Friday shopping will live up to my expectations.

Are other people going Black Friday shopping?

Senior at Colonia High School, Baylee Hoang thinks that Black Friday is not as big a deal anymore. “I feel like the sales are worse because it’s not as big a deal anymore. Not many people do Black Friday because it’s not worth it.”I agree with Hoang that the sales are getting worse.

Another senior at Colonia High School, Maria Rios, also thinks that the deals are not as good anymore. “I’ve only gone to black friday once at Walmart, and I would say it was worth it just because we were there really early. I don’t think I will go black friday shopping this year because I feel like the deals aren’t that good anymore, which might be why there aren’t that many people going anymore.”
