“When she was little, the animals’ role in the birth of Jesus was never explained to me. After watching “The Star”, I got a better understanding of these roles.” Said Ivana Gidado, a student at Colonia High School.
The main characters include: the Donkey, the sheep, and the overall journey of the birth of baby Jesus.
Characters
In addition to the main characters, the movie provides side characters to enrich the plot.
These additional characters, as shown in IMDb, were: The bird (Dave), The evil king (Herod), The hunter dogs (Thaddeus and Rufus), The informational mouse (Abby), and the barn animals (Leah, Zach, and Edith). All these characters aren’t part of the story of Baby Jesus, but they help the movie fall into place.
Plot
The movie begins in a small town, where an angel informs a woman named Mary that she will bear the Son of God. Mary is cleaning up after her wedding ceremony when someone introduces her to Bo.
The movie progresses into Mary and Joseph taking a trip to Bethlehem to give birth to the Son of God. On their way, they are unaware that the current king has sent his men to deal with this new King, who is the Son of God. Bo and his friends protect May and her family from evil.
However, at the end of the movie, we see a family. All the animals gathered together to help one another in making the birth of the Son of God as special as possible. A viewer can see how the animals admire and respect the sacred seen in front of them.
The donkey, Bo, wanted to keep the peace and protect Mary at all costs. Bo wanted to make sure she was safe, just as she had made sure he was safe. He understood, accepted, and forgave the dogs that were trying to hurt her. He realized that they were only struggling and they deserve a second chance at kindness.
