On September 23, 2003 The WB (a television network later to become The CW) launched the new teen series titled One Tree Hill.
One Tree Hill follows the lives of two half brothers, Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) and Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) in the small North Carolina town of Tree Hill. Both brothers grew up in completely different ways and did not socialize with one another, the only similarities they shared were their love for basketball and father Dan Scott (Paul Johansson). Lucas was raised by mother, Karen Roe (Moira Kelly) and uncle, Keith Scott (Craig Sheffer) while Nathan was raised by mother Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods) and Dan Scott. In the first few seasons the storyline follows characters, Haley James (Bethany Joy Lenz), Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton), Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and Marvin “Mouth” McFadden (Lee Norris) along with a few others who come in and out during their junior and senior years of high school. Relationships, heartbreak and tragedy strike the residents of Tree Hill through each season.
After the fourth season there is a four year time hop that reintroduces the original characters and brings in some news faces. Many things have changed in the lives of the dysfunctional friend group and the writers never leave us with a dull moment. Haley has now been married to Nathan for almost five years and together they have a son James “Jamie” Lucas Scott (Jackson Brundage). Lucas and Nathan’s relationship continues to blossom into a brotherhood. For the others, they struggle finding their way and hits some bumps in the road. The series follows the characters lives up until their late twenties.
One Tree Hill’s last episode aired on April 4, 2012. The show had lasted nine successful seasons but the network thought it was time to say goodbye. Today you can find all nine seasons of One Tree Hill on Netflix.
One Tree Hill is an awesome teen drama that mixes different scenarios that can be relatable to anyone. The acting of each individual character is incomparable. The cast members put a huge amount of effort into making their characters believable. What didn’t hurt the series is the fact that the entire cast is extremely attractive. Between the strong storylines and smart directing, the show is one worth a recommendation.
Out of all of the positives, like anything, there are a few negatives. Watching the show personally I felt as though some of the tragedies that had occurred were a little outrageous and somewhat repetitive. I thought “How could it be possible for all of these bad things to happen to one group of people?” Another negative, is that we lose a few characters during a season and they never return. The ending leaves the audience with a few questions but ties up all of the important information.
