A vocational school or a trade school is a school in which students are taught the skills needed to perform a particular job. A university is an institution of higher education and research which grants academic degrees in a variety of subjects and provides both undergraduate education and postgraduate education. Many students overlook vocational schools because they think everyone is supposed to go to a four-year university.

High school students have the choice of going to a four year college, two year college, a post-secondary school (which is also known as a trade school), the military or get permanent job. This can be a tough choice when the student is getting pressure to attend a college. Some universities the class of 2013 were accepted into are Alvernia University, American Music and Drama Academy, Bergen Community College, Centenary College, Drexel University and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Some trade schools class of 2013 was accepted into are Capri Institute, Lincoln Technical Institute, Stevens Institute of Technology , Universal Technology Institute, and Robert Fiance Beauty School.

Not sure if college is for you. Trade schools, like Robert Fiance Beauty School might be an alternative.

Students who are unsure if college is the right option for them should consider a trade school. Trade schools are much cheaper than a four-year college or community college. For example, Robert Fiance Beauty School is about $18,000 compared to a four year college which costs about $26,000 per year; $104,000 for a total of four years.  If you’re not a test taker, maybe look into a trade school because you don’t have to take the SATs or the ACTs.  In trade schools you get many different certificates in different parts of the trade. When going to a four-year college, students have to take core classes like English, Math, Science, and other mandatory classes that may not align with your major. If you’re not into taking classes that may not apply to your major, you might want to take a look into a trade school. Trade schools end up being much cheaper.

When deciding on your future, be sure to research all of your options and go in the direction that makes you happiest. Not being in major debt can add to that happiness; so don’t overlook trade schools. You can always attend college down the road after you start making some money from your trade training.

I went to an EMT trade school and its how I ended up in my career as a firefighter. I think they are awesome and a huge benefit especially to people like me who hate taking the written tests like in high school. Definitely going to be letting my friends hear about them. Thanks for the awesome information!
