“Insidious” is a scary and paranormal 2011 film released by FilmDistrict. The movie’s main character is played by Patrick Wilson as Josh Lambert. Rose Byrne also stars as Renai Lambert, and Ty Simpkins as Dalton Lambert.
Plot of Insidious
The story follows the Lambert family as they have just moved into a new house. Josh Lambert and Renai Lambert have three kids, Dalton, Foster, and Cali. From the start, Renai takes notice of the weird and unusual events happening in her house. Cabinets opening by themselves, boxes moving from room to room. Her youngest child, Cali, screams throughout every night.
One night, their son Dalton curiously wanders into the attic. To his dismay, he falls off a ladder and hits his head. Thinking nothing of it, Renai and Josh send Dalton to bed. The next morning, Dalton is unresponsive and cannot wake up.
A few more incidents convince Renai that spirits are haunting her house. As a result, Josh, who is still skeptical about believing her, agrees to move again.
Although they’ve moved to a new house, paranormal activity continues to occur. Renai hires a team of paranormal investigators to see what the problem is, which seems to link back to Dalton. Due to this, Renai and Josh have to find a way to get their son back.
Box Office and rating

The movie received a PG-13 rating for it’s jump scares and dark themes.
Review
Although it’s rated PG-13 and not R, this movie can be considered just as scary as “The Conjuring” films. Even with the small budget, this movie had me on the edge of my seat. The acting from Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne convinces audiences that they’re actually seeing paranormal creatures throughout the film. It’s also interesting seeing how well Patrick Wilson acts in this movie, since he also plays a huge role in “The Conjuring” films.
However, toward the middle of the movie, the storyline seems to slow down for a bit and get boring. It feels like a good 20-30 minutes just feel like a filler to make the movie seem longer. It picks back toward the end of the movie, but for a while, it’s hard not to take a quick nap.
Gaetano Spina is an avid horror movie fan. “I’d put it on the same scale as “The Conjuring”, it had a really good story and was definitely scary,” Spina states.
Aaron Miralda is a senior from Colonia High School. “It was a good watch.” Miralda states, “A few of the jump scares got me, but it was interesting to watch the paranormal side of the plot.”
This movie is a must-watch this spooky season!
