Looking back at 2020, exciting and historical moments in Pop Culture was made.

2020 was an interesting year for most of us. There is a lot to unpack from 2020 because of the different events that happened that year.  A lot of events were pushed to the back and forgotten about due to the virus. Let’s take a look back specifically at some of the exciting Pop Culture events that occurred in 2020.

Billie Eilish takes home five Grammys

At only 18 years old, Billie Eilish won five Grammys. The Grammy Awards is a popular award show for those in the music industry. It is a goal for many artists to at least get nominated for an award. Eilish managed to win four of the major awards: Best New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year. After Christopher Cross, Eilish was the 2nd person to ever receive those four awards at the same time. This made her the 1st woman to accomplish this. Not only that, she was the youngest person ever to win the Album of the Year award.

South Korean Film Parasite makes history at the Oscars

Similar to the Grammys, the Oscars is an award show for those in the film industry. In 2020, history was made at the Oscars when Parasite won the Best Picture award. Out of all the awards, Best Picture is known to be the top-tier award. Winning the award means that it was the best film of the year. The film was all spoken in Korean, making it the first non-English film to win the award. Along with the Best Picture award, Parasite won three other awards.

Zoom Movie/TV Cast Reunions

To name a few the cast of Phineas and Ferb, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air , The Good Place and The Office had their own cast reunions. In some reunions, fans of the shows were able to tune in the call and send questions for the cast to answer. It was great to see old cast members catching up with one another and talk more about the shows they were in.

Hamilton is brought to the homes of fans

Broadway Musical, Hamilton, was brought to everyone’s homes when it was released on Disney+ in July. The musical was meant to be released in theaters in October 2021, but due to the pandemic, it was released earlier and on Disney+ instead. Before the release, you were only able to watch the musical live in certain places like New York City. Releasing Hamilton on Disney+ allowed many people all over the world to have the opportunity to see the musical.
