February 26, 1935-Babe Ruth is released by the New York Yankees

After being released by New York, the Great Bambino signed with the Boston Braves as a vice president, assistant manager and left fielder. Unfortunately, the 40 year old struggled with health in the 1935 season, only playing 28 games out of a possible 154. Despite his disappointing final season, he is still regarded as one of if not the best baseball player to ever play. He set numerous records in his career, including 60 homers in the 1927 season, lasting for 34 years and 714 career home runs, a record that stood up until 1974.
