March 4th, 1927-Babe Ruth becomes the highest paid MLB player in history

Ruth signed a contract consisting of 3 years for $70,000 a year worth a total of $210,000. Ruth had led the American League in home runs and RBIs while also posting a solid batting average of .372 in the prior 1926 season. He went on to have a stellar 1927 season with a .356 batting average, 165 RBIs, and 60 home runs. His 60 home runs were not only a single season record at the time, they were more than any other American League team had in total that year.
