Why should I give a homemade gift? Is it better to receive a homemade gift or store bought gift? Many people debate these very questions online. Some feel like homemade gifts are more memorable/meaningful. Also some feel as if a homemade gift is a waste of useless and a waste of space.
Pros and Cons Homemade Gifts –
Many people like to say that homemade gifts carry a personal touch that store bought items simply can’t replicate. Handmade gifts are a symbol of love, care, and thoughtfulness. This is why it cannot be done for just anyone, you have to know the recipient on a personal level in order to handcraft a perfect gift. As a giver it can be much more cost-effective which is a big pro. But you also have to worry about the presentation of the gift and if it is good enough to give. Homemade gifts take much more effort and time than a store bought.

Store bought gifts offer convenience and a much wider range of options. You can buy a person exactly what they want instead of having to second guess if they’ll enjoy your homemade present. One big con of store bought gifts is the price. Many gifts are expensive and can be out of your price range.

How to decide –
When determining how to decide between giving someone a store-bought gift and homemade gifts you must think hard. Truly think about the person you’re giving a gift to. Some people are more caring and like a homemade gift that they could store as a treasure. They feel as if the homemade gift is really thoughtful, and beautiful. There are other people who feel homemade gifts are ugly, a waste of time, and useless to keep. These people prefer an easy store bought gift that could easily bring them joy.
You also must think of yourself. Do you have the money to buy the specific gift they want? Do you have the time or skills to create a good present? Not only the holiday season but also on birthday and many other occasions you traditionally must give a gift. Which is why you must think long and hard about your gift and the recipient.
My Preference –
I would rather receive a store bought gift. I think I have gotten into a more simplistic lifestyle especially when it comes to stuff I buy or receive. For Christmas I just asked for some clothes, and simple items for my room. A store bought present gives me exactly what you want. I think a homemade gift is a bit pointless. I know some people are very sentimental and like to hold on to things for memories but I kinda feel like it’s a waste of space. I’d much rather get an item that would be useful on a daily basis than a random gift (that may not even look good) to put on display.
