CHS bring the holidays to the Evergreen Center with songs from Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, the AcaPatriots and a dance from Harmony in Motion Show Choir.

On December 7, 2016, Colonia High School’s choirs visited the Evergreen Center to perform for the senior citizens. Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, AcaPatriots, and Harmony in Motion Show Choir sang songs and put on a performance.

The Evergreen Senior Center holds holiday event that includes music, snacks, and a fun time for the senior citizens. The CHS choirs perform at the Evergreen every year. According to choir teacher, Mrs. Alaine Bolton, it all started when, “The Colonia Senior Citizen’s reached out to us and asked if we would be interested and of course, we were interested!” At this event, Colonia High’s choirs sing a few songs and perform. It’s an exciting event for both the senior citizens and the high school students.

The Concert Choir made their way through the crowd as they sang, and eventually settled in formation once they got to the front. They began the mini concert with a performance of “What Child is This.” Following Concert Choir was Women’s choir. The Women’s Choir performed one song for the senior citizens called “One Candle Lights the Way.” This choir sings this song every year, and it continues to set a beautiful atmosphere for the holidays.

After the choirs, the acapella group of CHS, known as the AcaPatriots, took the stage. The group performed “This is Gospel” with no music instruments, only voices. Unfortunately, the AcaPatriots were missing some members and their beat-boxer. Nonetheless, they put on a wonderful performance. To close up the mini concert, the Harmony in Motion Show Choir sang and danced to Justin Timberlake’s hit song, “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” In their blue dresses and button-ups, Show Choir displayed an energetic and upbeat performance.

Overall, the CHS choirs put on a great show for the senior citizens at the Evergreen. Despite some minor difficulties, the choirs with the help of their wonderful teacher, Mrs. Bolton, were able to pull through and bring some holiday spirit at the Evergreen.

This event became almost a tradition for the choirs. According to Bolton, “We started performing there maybe 7 years ago.” It seems that both the senior citizens and the choirs enjoy doing this and there doesn’t seem to be an end to it anytime soon.
