Colonia boys’ basketball dribbles to another win against Cranford

The boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Cranford High school Tuesday night in the CHS gymnasium.

Both teams brought their best performance to the table but Colonia came out on top. In the early seconds of the first quarter of the game Colonia earned four points against Cranford. Cranford then started to pick up on points ending the quarter with the score at 9-11 Cranford up by two points.

Both teams were evenly matched and the game was close scored all the way through, however, Colonia had proved themselves to be the winner of this game.

Throughout the entirety of the second quarter Cranford managed to hold the lead with the score at 15 – 18. Both Colonia and Cranford committed fouls between both the first and second quarters; Colonia with four fouls and Cranford with three.

After halftime both teams switched sides on the court and continued to score at a steady pace. Colonia started to catch up in the third quarter with the score neck and neck. Going into the fourth quarter Colonia started to get the leg up with the score being 26-23. Throughout the entirety of the fourth and final quarter both teams took advantage of using their timeouts. Colonia made a phenomenal play, dribbling down the whole court and earned Colonia two additional points with a layup.

With less than a minute left in the game, Colonia in the lead, 32- 27. Colonia was able to hold the score up by a single point after Cranford’s attempt at a buzzer beater to win the game at the last second but it was unsuccessful.

Varsity basketball player Eric Marcus said, “Our varsity team can improve by boxing out, getting rebounds and other little things we can all improve upon, Cranford played a great game but we were better.”

Alex Savage is a 17 year old Colonia High School senior who grew up and lived in Colonia, NJ his entire life along with his family. Savage has been a club reporter for the Declaration newspaper as of February of 2016. Savage's favorite food is Penne Vodka and their favorite T.V. shows are American Horror Story and Bobs Burgers. He is also involved in CHS's Interact club along with the Newspaper Club at CHS. Savage's interests consists of Movies, TV, reading and Music. He can be found hanging out with friends and family or working at the Dairy Queen in Clark and can be also be  found Volunteering and helping out the Interact club as well . He is looking forward to writing for the Declaration newspaper for their senior year. Savage's future goals consist of attending college after high school and to earn a college degree for the major they choose.
