Emil Zatopek (1922-2000) was a Czechoslovak long-distance runner. Zatopek won three gold medals in the 1952 Summer Olympics. In 1951, he broke the record for the 20-kilometer run. In 1954, he was the first runner to break the 29 minute time in the 10,000-meter run. He was one of the greatest runners of the 20th century, as he brutally trained himself. He created interval training and hypoventilation training.
