Colonia plays JFK for their first game of the year.

On September 13th the Colonia football squad debuted their season by going up against rival JFK, and beat them 35-7. And 2 weeks later they beat New Brunswick High, 48-14. Colonia is now 4-1 after they recently defeated cross-town rivals, Woodbridge High, 21-7.

Colonia has been on a tear lately and nothing seems to stop them. Senior Nick Haderthauer (Division leader in tackles with 19) hopes to “help lead the team as far as possible.”

The team has been through a coaching change this year, as former head coach, Coach LaSala, moved up to Athletic Director. Coach Roarty took over as Head Football Coach over the summer.  When asked about how the new coaching system compares to the former coaching style, Senior Gadimi Dorielan stated that “nothing has changed.”

The football players practice afterschool every day after school, and some don’t get home until 7 pm. Some state that practices are hard and take a lot of effort,  and others state how it’s stressful but needed.

Junior Sam Pero leads the team with 92 carries. Pero has run a total of 802 yards this season and scored 11 touchdowns.
