Grey’s Anatomy tells the story of Meredith Grey’s life

Grey’s Anatomy is a medical drama, where the characters are all surgeons at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle, WA. The series started on March 27, 2005, and is currently on its 17th season.

Facing the COVID-19 pandemic

Grey’s Anatomy has always been a show that addresses real life problems. However, this season they have an even bigger issue to deal with, COVID-19. This season, the writers decided to base their season off of what it’s like in a hospital during the pandemic. Originally, they were not planning on following a COVID-19 storyline, and were only going to show it in a few episodes. However, the writers and cast decided that it was their duty to show how hard it is to be working in the hospital during this time.

So far, the season is at episode 9 and has definitely showed us how tragic it has been in the hospitals. The season premiered a little later in the year due to Corona, and also had a longer mid-season break during the months of December-March. We have seen many deaths, both related and unrelated to the pandemic. One of these deaths being a main character, Andrew Deluca, who was killed in the result of a sex trafficing storyline.

Bringing back old characters

Something no one was expecting this season was the show bringing back old characters. If you haven’t watched this season, Meredith is currently in a coma due to COVID-19 complications. In her coma, she has mentally placed herself in a peaceful spot: the beach. On the beach, she has been met with plenty of people from her past. In the first episode of the season, they brought back Derek Sheperd, played by Patrick Dempsey. Derek and Meredith were married, however, he died in season 17 after suffering a tragic car accident.

Bringing Patrick Dempsey back was a shock to fans around the world. However, this was only the beginning of the old characters they are bringing back. In the fourth episode of the season, they brough back George O’Malley, played by T.R. Knight. In season 5, George passed away after being hit by a bus. Fans are also excited that Grey’s Anatomy is bringing back another loved character, April Kepner, played by Sarah Drew, in the later episodes. Many fans had been speculating her return, but officials finally announced it a few weeks ago. We also know that Lexie Grey, played by Chyler Leigh, is coming back in the tenth episode. All of these characters have made fans so excited and keeps them wondering “who will be on next?”

Last Season?

A lot of fans have been wondering if season 17 is the last season or not. With all of the old characters the writers have been bringing back, it seems as if there’s no way they can outdo this in season 18. Krista Vernoff, head writer and executive producer, has said that she is planning to write a finale that can work as both a season and series finale. There has been speculation that Grey’s Anatomy will return for season 18, but no official announcement yet. We are definitely looking forward to see what else season 17 will be bringing to us, whether it’s the last season or not.
