Colonia High’s varsity boys wrestling team loses against the Sayreville Bombers in a wrestling match Friday Jan. 8, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Colonia High School. Our team lost with the score of 54-22.

In the beginning of the home wrestling match freshman Matthew Sternesky, in the weight class of 106 pounds, was struggling to get a win against Brandon Alicea and ended up getting a nose bleed in the middle of it. This was only Alicea 2nd match this season and he had lost the first one. The final scoring was 3-2.

A lot of members on are varsity team were pinned by the Sayreville Bomber last Friday.  Azam Naqvi who’s in the weight class 113 was pinned by Francisco Roman in 1 minute and 58 seconds and that was the first pin of the match. Roman has only lost once this entire season so it wasn’t a surprise when he had won. Also Al-Quahhar Daily-Ewen was pinned in just 24 seconds by Michael Porcaro. A total of seven people on our team were pinned.

Even though we had a lost on Friday a number of our wrestlers did extremely well. Freshman Luke Pero beat Junior Dylan Taillefer with a final score of 8-0 which was a final decision. Senior Sam Pero who has on lost once this whole entire season pinned Junior Tyler Lewis in only a matter of 27 seconds. Also Abdal Abrahim pinned Kyle Wavro in 1:35.

The loss wasn’t that surprising because Sayreville won their first match by 72 points and they are the top team in the Greater Middlesex Conference. The crowd at the match was big and more hype than expected. A lot of the ones sitting in the stands were cheering for the Pero brothers.  The coaches were getting aggravated at the player who struggle to respond to their directions. It was a stressful game filled with tons of yelling. Sternesky said, ” We could have beaten Sayreville but we threw a stinker” .The Patriot’s record for this year is now 3-4.
