Starting the book, The Lone Survivor, off with his partaking in BUDS, which is basic underwater Demolition; Marcus Luttrell the author and seal in this true story explains his time through hell week and a little more of seal training. On June 27, 2005 Marcus Luttrell, Danny Dietz, Michael Murphy, and Matthew Axelson dropped down for a helicopter onto the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan. The team then hikes through mountains and hard terrane to get to the area for hidden observation. While up in their spot goat herders stumble upon them and then through a series of events and decisions by the seals, they must now retreat into the forest and run for their lives from incoming Taliban. All being seriously wounded, only one survives and makes it to a village that takes care of him and helps get him home.
This book, which was later made into a movie, was a amazing book to read. Not only interesting but also a little sad and exciting. It is sad when you realize how the deaths of our soldiers impact the team.
This book is full of non-stop action. When reading, I find it hard to get really interested and into a book, but with this book I felt like I was there with him telling me this horrific occurrence of events himself. It is such a home hitting feeling you get when reading this, you see firsthand how our soldiers put their lives out on the line and what they go through and see for this country.
This book is very descriptive and left me with no questions at the end it was a very well wrote memoir of the experience. There is never a dull moment in the book, even when they would be just sitting their scouting the area. The way he tells you how he feels their and they way you feel like your there it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I am a very proud American and love my country and if you are the same way then you would love this book; there is nothing I did not, like about this book it kept me entertained and it got me involved in the story more than any book I have ever read.
Lone Survivor is a New York Times Best Seller for a reason. This book is a great read for high school students and older due to the graphic situations noted on the book. Also understand some prior knowledge about the problem that American soldiers and citizens were going through over sea. Read the book then watch the movie for a better appreciation of the story.
