The Patriots get ready to start their fifth game

CHS’s Varsity Baseball Team, the Patriots, defeated the Metuchen Bulldogs with a score of 4 – 3. The teams played on the home turf Friday, April 8th at 4 p.m. The game was the Patriots’ fifth game of the 2016 spring season. So far the Patriots’ record is 1 – 4 while their league standings in the GMC White Division is 0 – 4 which places them in sixth place.

The Patriots’ roster includes Seniors Rocco Ferrentino, Austin Galea, Mike Parry, Kyle Rajcevic, Lee Tamburello, Mike Wilson, A.J. Scherb, Deondre Stines.  Juniors Evan Coste, Tyler Layton, Zach Gregor, Charlie Tavormina. Sophomores Jason Hilenski, Frank Lehman, Anthony Palmisano,  Chris Michael.

The lineup for Colonia was Ferrentino, Galea, Parry, Rajcevic, Tamborello, Wilson, Hilenski, Lehman, Palmisano, and Michael. Their batting average for the game was 0.290. Pitching for Colonia were Gregor, Lehman and Parry.

The game started out at a slow pace with none of the teams scoring in the first and second inning. It wasn’t until the top of the third, in which Metuchen scored twice in their third out. The score went back and forth between both teams from the third inning to the seventh inning which made for an exciting game. After the seventh inning, the game went into extra innings with the teams tied 3 – 3 and then in the top of the eighth with no outs Colonia scored and won the game 4 – 3.

There was only one thing that made being at the game annoying was that it wasn’t as quiet as it is at a major league game, but it wasn’t the fans, it was both teams.

After the game, I got the chance to talk to a fan of the Patriots and a sophomore at Colonia, Jonathan Peralta. According to Peralta, the game was very exciting because of “all the back and forth between the teams with the score” and also said that he will attend more games in the future because he hopes that they get as far as they did last year in which they got third in the league.

Overall, the Patriots played a good game against Metuchen. The game gave them their first win of the season in which the team was very excited after the game had ended, the Patriots were hugging and cheering.

Good luck to the Patriots on their 2016 season from The Declaration staff.

Kaitlyn Ferreira is fifteen years old and a sophomore at Colonia High School. Her interests include loves taking pictures, watching TV and reading. Ferreira is 4’10 which she loves and hates because at concerts or other events, it is difficult to see over all the taller people in crowds because most people are taller than her. Her friends say that she is kind and shy in the beginning when she doesn’t know you but once you get to know her, she becomes funny and totally crazy. As of now, Ferreira works with her dad, helping him with his business but in the future she hopes that one day she will work for a very popular magazine as a photographer. She is an only child and lives with her mother, father and yorkie named Rusty. Ferreira’s inspirations in life is her mom and Taylor Swift because they both have been there for her ever since she was little.
