Running away from his problems, Davey Stone is not in the holiday spirit.

As the holiday season is approaching a great movie to watch is Eight Crazy Nights. Eight Crazy Nights is a Hanukkah movie involving a man named Davey Stone who learns about the holiday spirit.

Eight Crazy Nights premiered in 2002. It is an American teen/adult animated film. Seth Kearsley directed the movie and Adam Sandler produced as well as co-written it. Although this movie takes place during the holiday season, it focuses more on Hanukkah rather than Christmas.

The story revolves around a man name Davey Stone (voiced by Adam Sandler) who is a troublemaker. Stone is an alcoholic with a criminal record that once again breaks the law. At Stone’s trial a 70 year old man Whitey Duvall (also voiced by Adam Sandler), comes to Stone’s rescue. Whitey convinces the judge to give Stone community service. The type of service Stone has to do is help referee for Whitey’s Youth Basketball League.

Stone’s and Duvall relationship is rocky from the start. Stone humiliates Duvall and refuses to listen or help. However, that doesn’t stop Duvall from being nice to Stone because he sees potential in him. Throughout the movie we see the two characters grow and learn from each other. In the end, they both change for the better.

Review

I definitely recommend this movie because it is a holiday hit. Not only is it funny it has scenes, with meaningful messages. It is recommend for only teens and adults to watch because it is rated PG-13. It does have extreme language and substance abuse so if one is uncomfortable, I wouldn’t recommend to watch. Also, it is only 76 minutes which is decent because it doesn’t drag on like other movies but gets to the point.

I do recommend this movie for viewers to watch. I like how it revolves around Hanukkah rather than Christmas like most holiday movies. It also, it hilarious due to its jokes and music. In the movie there are many songs the characters sing. Davey’s Song, At the mall, and Technical Foul are a few songs the characters sing. These songs add more humor to the movie and make it a lot more interesting.

What I also like about the movie is the relationship that grow. Davey Stone starts off a troublemaker and rude because both his parents die. Stone learns to deal with his problems head on and learns to love. Whitey also becomes more respected by his community. Both of these parallel stories make the movie more special. If ever thinking about a holiday movie to watch but are tired of your standard Christmas movie, watch Eight Crazy Nights you won’t regret it.
