Winter sports at CHS are coming to a close and warm-weather sports are coming out of hibernation.  The Spring Track team is ready to hurtle any obstacles and anticipates good things for the 2015 season.

Spring Track has always played a big role in Colonia High School’s spring sports season. It is when the school’s star athletes come out and represent our school in a wide array of competition between more high schools than can be counted.

“This is not a workout club – it is a highly competitive varsity sport,” said Mr. Quick, coach of the Girls’ Spring Track Team.

Over the past few years, the Spring track team has made numerous achievements, including advancing onto the GMC Blue Division Relay, as well as the NJSIAA Track and Field Meet of Champions.

This year, the team is expecting to welcome many new members, who will very soon be able to experience the sport for themselves. Quick encourages anyone who is interested in participating to sign up. A physical form is required. There are many track events that students are able to participate in. These events include the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes for those interested in sprinting, as well as the 800, 1600 (mile), and 3200 (2-mile) runs for those interested in running distance. There are also events aside from running including various jumps, throws (discus and javelin), as well as hurdles, providing participants in Track with a wide variety of options and opportunities.

“It is important to ensure that all of our teammates continuously uphold a positive attitude,” said Quick. “Keeping a strong morale is very important to this team because it enables all of our teammates to feel confident with themselves, and ultimately leads to success.”

Not only does the team as a whole have goals and accomplishments it would like to collectively achieve, but individual athletes have personal goals that they will be working toward throughout this Track season.“Our main team goals for this season are to be highly-competitive and to give our best at all times,” said Quick. “We must always be unified, essentially like one big happy family.”

Anyone interested in joining Spring Track this year can visit Mr. Quick’s SchoolWires page for information regarding registration, as well as the meet schedule. The first day of practice this season will be held on Friday, March 6th immediately after school.

Quick stated,“Seeing students push beyond their boundaries and achieve success is really my goal as a Track coach.”

“Running in an event at a track meet is such an enjoyable experience for me,” said Aliya White, Spring Track participant. “I just love to see myself and my teammates making accomplishments when running.”

Also, feel free to come out and support the team! Colonia High School’s home meets will be held on Tuesday, April 16th, Tuesday, May 5th, and Tuesday, May 12th, right after school on the track. Come out and support your fellow peers and show some Colonia Pride. The track meet schedule can be found on Mr. Quick’s SchoolWires page. Also, any changes to the schedule will be announced during the morning and afternoon announcements, so continuously keep an ear out!
