Colonia High School Girls Track and Field loses to Spotswood High School
Colonia High School Girls’ Track and Field loses to Spotswood High School

A crowd of CHS fans came on April 21st, to show support for the Girls’ Track and Field first home meet. The Girls made a good fight but still lost to Spotswood High School.

By 4:00 pm the bleachers were already starting to fill with Colonia High School supporters while athletes stretched and warmed up and Coach Quick walked around the field.The game started at around 4:30 pm at Colonia High School’s track. This was Colonia’s and Spotswood’s second time competing against one another this season, with Colonia making an unofficial win against Spotswood the first time.

Colonia High School Freshman Shelby Piccinic was confident about the meet saying, “I am excited to see the results of today’s meet. I have a good feeling Colonia will do outstanding.”

In the 100 meter dash, Colonia placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with CHS Freshman Mary I. placing first in 13 seconds flat, Jimaye F. placing 2nd also in 13 seconds, and Angelina placing 3rd in 13.4 seconds.

Freshman Brittany Walker added that “In order to do good in track, you must have self-confidence.” Later on at the meet, Walker placed 2nd place in her heat during the 100 meter dash, and even broke her own personal record.

In the 1600 meter run, Spotswood girls took 1st and 2nd place, but CHS Freshman Shelby Piccinic placed 3rd with a time of  5.26.1. Colonia took 1st and 3rd place for the 400 meter dash with Mary I. coming in 1st in 1.03.8, and Jimaye F. coming in 3rd with a time of 1.07.01. For the 800 meter run, CHS student Riley took 3rd place taking a time of only 2.42.4 to complete the run.

CHS students took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the 200 meter dash. Mary I. placed first having a time of 27.3 seconds. Jimaye placed 2nd, with a time of 27.5 seconds. Lastly, Angelina placed 3rd with a tome of 28.1 seconds.

Finally, Piccinic took 2nd place for Colonia in the 3200 meter run taking 11 minutes and 47 seconds to complete the run, and also broke her own personal record.

The Colonia Girls’ Track Team put forth a great effort but still lost to Spotswood, with the final score tallying up to 83-48.
