Wrestling wins first home game

The Colonia Patriots faced South River at home at 6 PM on January 15th at Colonia High School.  Colonia won the matchup 40-39 at home. It was a very compelling matchup.

Colonia and South River kept see-sawing with points.  At the beginning South River looked like they were going to win, then Colonia would take the lead, then back to South River, and by the time it was the last match – Colonia needed a pin to win.

It was up to William Allardice, senior at CHS. Allardice was the last matchup, and he had to pin his opponent in order to win.  His match only lasted one round and only lasted approximately a minute.  He pinned his opponent.

The crowd went crazy with excitement. The team jumped up with joy.  After the teams congratulated one another in the middle of the mat, Coach Monaco was interviewed. Coach Monaco is one of the coaches of the wrestling team who has been with the team for the past two years.  He realized that the last time they wrestled at home that they lost; he remarked: “It was good for the team that they won today.  They wrestled tough tonight and it was good for the crowd to see.”

He also said that as a whole the team performed very well and the way they wrestled made it exciting.  However, all along the coach expected this to be a close matchup between the two schools.  Monaco said, “Yeah, this school is a tough school to beat.  They are a tough opponent.  However, we won the key matches and we put up a good fight.”

The hero of the day was definitely senior Will Allardice. Monaco explained, “We had to bump guys to different weight classes this week.  We had to play match-ups strategically and Will Allardice really came through for us in that last match.”
