Senior Sergio Rivera goes for extra points in round 2.

Colonia faced Metuchen at home on January 24, 2014 at 6 PM.  There were many people in attendance cheering on both Metuchen and Colonia.  It was a pretty close match-up but Colonia fell short losing 33-41.

In the earlier matches Colonia looked strong, and slowly started fading.  Evan Woerner got cut during his match along with two players from the Metuchen team. Most of the matches were long matches that went all three rounds and the boys wrestled for approximately six minutes each.  Once the matches went on longer than two rounds the Colonia boys started growing tired.

Coach Monaco, a substitute teacher and Assistant Colonia Coach stated that his team’s performance “really didn’t meet expectations.”

Monaco also said, “This was a real toss-up match, it was close and we had the chance to win.  Seeing the score leaves a bad taste in our mouths as a team and it leaves us hungry for a win.”  When asked what the team can improve on as a whole he immediately responded with “Wrestling the whole match.  The guys grew tired and weren’t able to keep going.  Also having clearance at the end.”

The team loves wrestling at home, they love being home, but they hate losing at home.  This time they walk away with another loss to add to the record books.  Their next match at home will be February 5th against Edison.  Until then they have to carry the weight of another loss on their shoulders.
