Sales in retail stores are at a yearly high during the holiday season. People are out and about purchasing gifts for their friends, family and co-workers. The holiday season is supposed to be a joyous time but it doesn’t seem that way when it comes to customers.

An employee’s job is to be hospitable and give customers the best service possible. So why do they deserve bad treatment for doing their job? This occurs at more than just retail stores, customers are rude to employees in food service as well. A small amount of people go out to eat on Thanksgiving. The only way to solve the problem is not to take it personally. Keep a calm attitude and offer sympathy to hard working people. Treat others how you want to be treated. It’s the holiday season, be happy, be thankful and be considerate.
I’ve heard stories of customers being rude on thanksgiving to waiters and waitresses. It is sad to see that there are people that offer no sympathy for others who are sacrificing their own time for another. From personal experience, customers have treated me poorly while I was working in food service, even when I provide service politely. It is unnecessary for people to have an attitude towards others because of their own stress and frustration from the holiday season.
However, there are employees who are rude to customers as well. This may be because of the increase in business at stores during the holidays. Some employees don’t want to deal with mass amounts of people all days for hours on end.
