The stunning imagery in Soul can put any viewer in a trance. The beautiful interpretations of the universe and Earth truly redefine what life is all about.

Soul is Pixar’s newest film that hit Disney+’s streaming services recently. It has captivated the hearts of many, because unlike other Pixar films, Soul’s message truly touches the soul.

Overview

Released on December 25, 2020, Soul teaches its viewers the true meaning of life. The protagonist, Joe Gardener, played by Jamie Foxx, had spent his whole life chasing after his dream of becoming a world-renowned pianist in New York City.

However, he one day falls into a hole and dies. Joe’s soul is now in the universe and is destined to cross over to the afterlife. Joe doesn’t want this, so he does everything in his power to try and get back on Earth. Through this, he meets 22, played by Tina Fey – a soul who couldn’t find a spark and avoids going Earth. The two develop a plan so Joe can get back to his body and 22 can stay in the universe.

They go on an adventure when they both fall into Earth, however 22 is in Joe’s body, and Joe is a cat. Through their times in the universe and on Earth, the two learn that the purpose of life is to enjoy it and have a human experience.

This film is rated PG and it is the perfect movie to watch as a family. It does lightly touch on what depression is like, however it teaches people that they must push through their troubles and worries in order to see the light in life.

Review

Unlike other Pixar movies that I’ve watched, Soul deeply connected with me. Usually, the messages Pixar tells in their films are always nice, however none of them hit me as hard as this one did. The beautiful animations as well as the way it teaches it’s message is very well done. I was mesmerized by the realness yet imaginative qualities of it.

The soundtrack enhanced the film’s beauty even more as it perfectly compliments the scenery and feelings of the action. It causes its viewers to feel the emotions being displayed on screen.

The message about enjoying life has stuck with me ever since I watched it. It makes me appreciate the little things in life and be more grateful for living. It also taught me how important it is to chase your dreams while still being appreciative for what you have in the present.

Overall, I give this movie a 10 out of 10. It’s so entrancing and deep, it takes its viewers to another world. It perfectly captures the essence of what enjoying life is about and its universal message can touch the souls of everyone. It reinvents what it means to have a purpose- showing that everyone’s purpose is to live and enjoy the beauties of life.
